A Canadian backpacker landed in Australia in 2015 with no network, no product design skills, and no plan. Ten years later, Peak Moto is an Australian, female-founded gear shop with two stores and a team of riders. This is how that happened.

The beginning of Peak Moto
Peak Moto founder and Director, Amanda Phoenix, had just moved to Australia as a backpacker in 2015. After totalling her bike in a crash and realising that hard items - a phone, a set of keys - should not be carried next to soft organs, she started a small motorcycle bag business called Flying Solo Gear Co in February 2016.
There was no product design background behind it and no network to lean on. There was a five dollar tablecloth, a borrowed sewing machine, and scraps of fabric.
In February 2023, Flying Solo Gear Co expanded into its first bricks and mortar store. The space started out as a showroom for the bags, but Amanda had a passion for women's gear born of her own experience of being unable to find gear that fits. She reinvested all revenue from the business into expanding the range and buying more gear, until the tiny 29 square metre shop was bursting at the seams.

Peak Moto is considered both a sister company and a distributor of Flying Solo Gear Co, sharing the same values of premium customer service and the love of the ride. The Peak Moto name embodies a commitment to reaching new heights, pushing boundaries, and embracing the exhilaration that comes from the world of motorcycles.

How we grew
Amanda quit her job and invested all of her savings into the security bond and first few months of rent in a commercial lease, then reinvested every dollar of profits into new gear until it could sustain itself. This is how Peak Moto started.

The first shop
A 29 square metre showroom - a cement hole in the wall with no running water - which quickly filled with women's gear and was soon bursting at the seams.

Melbourne
Kierra moved from Sydney in 2020 and quickly became part of the local riding community. With parents who raced cars in the sixties and seventies, she was hooked on motorsport after sitting on a pocketbike at age six. Riding since 2016, she is also a professional photographer, and brings knowledge, patience and an unbiased approach to all things in life.

Afua is a multi-talented Melbourne girl with a background in acting, dancing and singing. She has a warm and cheerful nature and is great at putting people at ease. Being a theatre gal, nothing is ever too much - Afua is always willing to give everything a crack and is a reliable member of the team.

Melbourne supervisor
Dana moved to Melbourne from the NSW border and has been around motorbikes her whole life. Both her parents ride, and instilled a love of classic and Italian bikes from a young age. Riding since 2021, Dana is a bit of a goofball who loves a laugh, and is kind and nurturing toward everyone who comes through the door.

Founder, Director, and Co-Owner
Amanda wears many hats, as directors do, but specialises in the marketing and discovery side so new riders can find Peak Moto in the first place. She values transparency and integrity in everything she does, including how she runs the shop. Licensed since 2008, her favourite type of riding is multi-day touring - as long as twisties are involved.

Finance and Co-Owner
Steph manages the finances and is the hyper-analytical, super-spreadsheeting powerhouse of the team. Without her expertise our backend would look like dropped spaghetti. Riding since 2016, she loves long distance - a casual 4,000km Melbourne to Sunshine Coast return in a week, and a recent 15,000km half-lap of Australia. She values fairness and loyalty, and offers an unbiased opinion on any problem that arises.

Leah is originally from the UK and has made her way to the Gold Coast after spending a couple years in Perth. She has recently rebuilt a Honda CBR 500R and has a wealth of knowledge from her background working in the motorcycle gear industry. Leah is also frequently found cutting laps at the track.

Grace has gone from newbie to an integral part of transforming the culture and community of our Brisbane shop. She is friendly, personable and relatable, making sure everyone she meets feels at ease. Grace assisted heavily in building the Brisbane shop from the ground up, and brings great energy to the team every day.

About the founder
Amanda Phoenix
Director & Founder
An avid motorcyclist for over 15 years, Amanda founded the motorcycle bag and apparel company Flying Solo Gear Co, where she designs her products in collaboration with the riding community across Australia.
Drawing from her own experiences of overcoming challenges and discrimination, Amanda is deeply committed to fostering equality, respect and inclusivity. Guided by her humble upbringing, she values honesty and integrity in everything she does.
At Peak Moto she works to create a safe, welcoming space for riders of all backgrounds, cherishing the connections she builds with those who visit the shop. She is passionate about empowering women in the motorcycle community, and a massive advocate for women becoming better versions of themselves through riding.
Amanda believes in being kind and genuine to everyone she meets, as long as they do the same.
