GETTING THE RIGHT FIT
How to take Measurements for Motorcycle Gear
If you’re struggling to find a video guide on how to get accurate measurements for your motorcycle gear shopping, we’ve shot a quick How-To video on what to do!
We’ll cover the following measurements in just over 2 minutes:
📏 Bust/Chest*
📏 Waist
📏 Hips
📏 Mid-Thigh
📏 Inseam
📏 Head**
*Some jackets specify that your arms have to be down by your side, in which case you would follow the recommendations from the manufacturer.
**Note that you have to go around the occipital bone for most helmet measurements, which we didn’t portray very accurately in the video.
TAKING YOUR MEASUREMENTS
BUST / CHEST
Measure the circumference around the widest part of your chest and around the torso.
WAIST
Measure the circumference at the point in which you bend side to side.
HIPS
Feet together, measure around the widest part of your bum.
MID-THIGH
Measure your dominant leg. With that foot elevated on a stool, find the midpoint between your hip crease and knee. This is typically NOT the widest point.
INSEAM
Measure from the groin to the ankle bone, following along the leg.
HEAD CIRCUMFERENCE
Measure around the forehead and behind the occipital bone (bony prominence on the back of your head)
PALM CIRCUMFERENCE
With your hand softly closed, measure around the knuckle and across the palm.
FOOT LENGTH
With the back of your foot against a wall, pull a measuring tape from the wall to the end of your biggest toe. Choose the measurement of the longest foot.
Keep in mind that this is meant to be a general guide, and that some manufacturers specify body position when taking these measurements. It is always best to prioritise the instructions provided by the manufacturer over these generalised guidelines.
